U.S. GM wants to focus on next-generation Sera pickups

July 23, 2012 News: In the coming months, the General Motors Corporation of America (GMC) will focus on stimulating sales growth of its popular cross-border vehicles. After that, the company wanted to focus on its next-generation high-capacity vehicle, the Sierra pickup.

The Acadia full-size series crossover will have a lot of internal upgrades when it is sold this fall. When the high-end Denali model is launched this fall, GM will also try to win more sales for its second-to-market Terrain crossover.

It is understood that the company’s next-generation Sierra 1500 pickup will be available at the end of spring 2013. The company’s new Yukon SUV will also be available in the second half of 2013.

In addition, GM decided to cancel the Granite ultra-small crossover manufacturing plan, which was exhibited at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show.

The highlights of General Motors' 2013-15 model are as follows.

Canyon models: The 2012 model year will be the last model year for the current version of the GM midsize pickup. According to sources, the next-generation GM Canyon model is expected to be launched in the 2014 model year. The model will feature the GMC mark and will have a significant style change over the Colorado model. Its engine lineup is likely to add a 3.6-liter V-6 engine and a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.

Serra 1500 pickup: The redesigned Serra 1500 pickup is expected to be released as a 2014 model at the end of spring. Although the full-size series pickup uses more aluminum and high-strength steel, its vehicle weight is expected to be a few hundred pounds lighter than the current model version. The series will use GM’s next-generation compact V-8 engine, which will be equipped with direct injection, variable valve timing, and cylinder deactivation technology, and can be used in conjunction with an eight-speed transmission.

The Serra 2500, 3500 models: The new series of heavy-duty pickups redesigned by General Motors for the 2011 model year are expected to be launched as 2015 models by the end of 2014.
