Alfa Laval has introduced a ballast water treatment system, the PureBallast ballast water treatment system, to small vessels. Alfa Laval's ballast water treatment system, which was submitted to the US Coast Guard in March 2015, is now available for ballast water treatment systems with a ballast water treatment flow rate of 87 m3/hr.
It is reported that a variety of ship types, including offshore supply vessels, will benefit from the PureBallast ballast water treatment system that expands the flow range. With the new reactor, the system is optimized in size from 170 cubic meters per hour to 87 cubic meters per hour. This is a major extension of the PureBallast range because the previous ballast water treatment system had a minimum processing capacity of 250 cubic meters per hour.
According to Stephen Westerling Greer, global business manager for PureBallast, “lower process flow will make the PureBallast ballast water treatment system closer to smaller vessels. In some cases, such as the offshore industry, the demand for small vessels may be even more extreme.â€
“The smaller PureBallast ballast water treatment system is a ballast water treatment system that is fully compatible with large ballast water treatment systems,†he said. “Because the reactor of the ballast water treatment system is made of SMO steel, As a result, it has a long corrosion life and power management is equally effective. Its performance is also cleaned and the new compact design meets the user's need for space saving."
